Dianthus
The Dianthus flower is native to Europe, North Africa, Arctic North America and Asia and comes in over 300 different varieties of flower. A few of these flowers are annual while the rest are biennial flowers. This flower species are also used as a food plant by a variety of different insect species. Another interesting fact is that the origin of the verb "pink" comes from the frilled edges of these flowers. The definition of the word pink is not of a color but rather "to decorate with a perforated or punched pattern."
