The Delphinium flower is named for the shape of the flowers, which resemble that of a dolphin. This flower, however beautiful it may be, is also highly poisonous. Strangely enough, even though its poisonous, it has gotten used in alternative medicine. This flower has over 300 different varieties and like to grow in the Northern Hemisphere. In addition to being used in floral arrangements and various other designs, the juice of this flower is mixed with alum to make a blue type of ink. These 300 or so varieties of this flower come in a variety of different colors, including blue, lavender, purple, white, salmon and yellow. Another interesting thing to know about this flower is that its name means flight of fancy ardent attachment.
