Cornflower
The Cornflower is also known by the scientific name of Centaurea Cyanus, and is a flowering plant that blooms annually through the months of June, July and August, and is native to Europe. Growing to around 35 inches tall, this flower has grey greenish stems that branch out. Another stunning characteristic of this flower is its brilliant stunning blue color. This alone makes the flower very pleasing to the eye. In the past it was considered as just a mere weed in crop fields and unfortunately, it is endangered due to the use of herbicides destroying its habitat. However, there are laboratory Back from the Brink programs currently active to try to bring it back from its endangered state, starting by reintroducing this flower as an ornamental plant. Besides the natural blue color, many different colors of this flower have been made, including pink, white, lavender, black and purple as well as a variety of different pastels. The black flower is really just a dark maroon color.Kingdom: PlantaeSubkingdom: Tracheobionta Superdivision: Spermatophyta Division: Magnoliophyta Class: Magnoliopsida Subclass: Asteridae Order: Asterales Family: Asteraceae Genus: Centaurea L Species: Centaurea cyanus L Click Here to go to Cornflower Home
